Surrendering

Picture
We understand that giving up your pet is one of the hardest things to do, and we try to be very understanding of the situation.

We ask that if you contact us to surrender an animal please send us as much information as possible about the animal and send us as many pictures as you can, this will help us place that animal into a wonderful foster home as well as find the best home possible for them.

We do not require a surrender fee for your dog. If you are in a financial place to help, however, it is much appreciated. Your donation would go toward offsetting the cost of food, supplies, and vet care while they are in their foster home.

Email secondchancelondon@gmail.com to surrender an animal, or fill out our surrender form.

If you find yourself in a position where you must find your pet a home, please contact all local rescue groups instead of posting free ads online. The risks that accompany a free dog posting are far too high.

  • Owners of puppy mills are always on the lookout for cheap breeding stock. When they see a dog listed as "free to good home," they jump to see if they are spayed/neutered. If not they may take them and they will become a puppy mill mom or stud. They do not care if they are purebreds. Any dog will do.

  • Some people who own large snakes do not always want to bother with the expense of purchasing mice or rats at the pet store when they can just get small kittens at no cost from "free to good home" ads. Even puppies are sometimes chosen as snake and large reptile food.

  • Bait dogs are often sought for illegal dog fighting rings. Unfortunately they are more popular then many know. Any dog has the potential to become bait.

  • Most people are aware that animal cruelty exists, but think it doesn't happen in their neighbourhood. Like child abuse and domestic violence, most animal cruelty goes unreported. Most reported animal abuse and neglect goes no farther than local animal control.

  • Pet hoarders and collectors are also a risk. Both hoarders and collectors may seem like normal people who genuinely love animals if they contact you about a pet you are trying to rehome. The problem is that they love animals for all the wrong reasons, and have become overrun. They're unable to care for the animals that they already have, and sadly keep bringing more into their home.
